There will be a screening of the film Persepolis on Thursday 15 October on level 6 of the Boyd Orr, lecture theatre E. The screening should start at around 7 PM, but we have the room from 6:30 so feel free to come along for a chat beforehand.

The story follows a young girl as she comes of age against the backdrop of the Iranian Revolution. The story ends with Marjane as a 22-year-old expatriate. The film won the Jury Prize at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.
(Thanks to Wikipedia for description and poster)
This film came third in the Amnesty UK media team’s Top 10 Human Rights Films Poll (request on twitter), so it is certainly worth coming along to watch.

Hello to everyone past, present and future!
First of all thank you to everyone who showed an interest in Amnesty International and put down their e-mail addresses over the past week. I’m sure all of your inboxes are jammed with clubs and socities inviting you to one thing or another so i will try to keep this short!
Our first meeting of the year will take place tomorrow, Tuesday 22nd of September, 5pm, in committee room 1 in the QMU. (Head up to the 3rd floor, turn left and it is the first room on the right, should be clearly signed.) The meeting will be an introduction to who we are and what we do so please do come along, even if you are not sure what amnesty does, this is your chance to come and see! The meeting is an open event so please, also, feel free to bring along any friends.
Tomorrow is also going to see in our first social of the year, a chance for people to meet, chat and generally get to know each other. It shall be starting from 8pm in the Halt Bar (follow this link for directions) and we hope to see as many of you there as possible, again an open event
Thank you very much.
Look forward to meeting you all,
Megan,
GUAI Secretary.

Hello all,
the time to take action has finally arrived. It is exam time I realise this but please if you can spare some time tell everyone your close to about this event. We must must must let people know about it.
I am calling on all of you to gather at my flat on Thursday at 5pm so we can get a well known face to rescue Joseph Kony’s child soldiers. We will be dabbling with the force of you tube in ways you can’t imagine in order to get the doctor….yes the doctor to come and rescue us.
247 West Princes Street, Glasgow, 5pm- everyone will make their own version of the rescue plea to Mr David Tennant to ask him to come and help us with our rescue in Edinburgh on the 25th APRIL. Please if you can make it come along, we need as many faces as posisble to ensure he takes our plea seriously.
TO THE RESCUE
Rachel xx

Hey All
Just to let you know at the meeting this week we shall be giving you guys the first chance to grab a much coveted ticket for our Secret Policeman’s Ball. If you bring your money to the meeting on Tuesday that would be grand. We are hoping to sell out so please tell all your friends that this is a night not to miss.
All proceeds go towards G.U.A.I’S Raise-off so all of your support is much appreciated.
If you can’t make the meeting on Tuesday don’t despair, there will be ticket sellers all around Glasgow Uni and around the QMU in the next few weeks.
Hope to see you all there!

Hey guys,
Firstly, it was great to see so many of you at our first meeting yesterday. All your ideas were amazing and im very very excited for the upcoming year! My plan is to put together a raise off team in order to get everyone who wants to be as involved as possible. This will hopefully be happening within the next few weeks so watch this space!!
Next, as im sure you’re all aware (it has been plugged enough!) our first event this year will be the big fun run on the 4th of October. It’s fantastic that so many of you want to come along and be involved, either by running or by cheering! It looks to be a really fun and most importantly really awarenenss raising day!
For those of you who are lovely enough to be giving up your Saturday to come cheer us on, we will need to be at the event for half ten and so i propose we all meet outside the QMU at 9.45 (eek) so we can head over to bellahousten park together. Anyone who knows where it is and wants to make there own way there thats great too! I just ask that anyone who is meeting at the QMU to let me know so we dont leave without you!
For those of you who have so wonderfully offered to run, im afraid there is an entry fee of £7.50. I realise we are all students and this is quite a lot to ask so please dont feel pressure (louder cheers will be ace!) However, if you would still like to run the following link will allow you to register:
Sponsor forms are available to download on the amnesty uk website or to make life easier i have a bundle of them that i will bring to next weeks meeting.
Thank you so much
